Het gebruik van een doorlopende draad in gemetselde fineerwanden is nuttig bij het bieden van extra bescherming tegen problemen die voortvloeien uit thermische uitzetting en krimp. Het zorgt ook voor een meer uniforme verdeling van de zijdelingse krachten.

De Uniforme Bouwverordening voor seismische zones schrijft voor dat bij verankerde fineerwanden een doorlopende draad in de mortelverbinding moet zijn ingebed. De draad wordt vastgezet aan het trekanker, dat aan de draagconstructie wordt bevestigd.
